exhaust approved
I finally got an exhaust design approved by my chosen exhaust supplier Centek.
Scott Baggett is Centek’s support engineer and he has been invaluable on assisting me in my designs. When I started all this I knew nothing about designing sail boat exhaust. With Scott’s patience and help I feel I have a good design.
My design isn’t perfect ( what sail boat project is?) but I made the trade offs and am well aware of the design weaknesses and strengths. My future engine/transmission/prop install will keep these in mind.
My design drops 1.5ft down out of the yanmar 4JH4 exhaust header into a vernalift muffler all 3inch exhaust hose. then reduce from 3in to 2in. using 2in exhaust hose up 5.5 feet to a custom gen-sep (water seperator) inside the nav station. Out of the gen-sep it goes from 2in to 3in and outboard to the hull, then up 2.5 ft to the underside of the deck turn aft and run 18 ft to the stern then 1.5 ft down to the exhaust outlet. Man that is a long way to go.
Some of the features of my design are water can no longer collect in low points. It either falls out the exhaust outlet into the ocean, or falls into the water seperator then into the ocean, or into the oversized waterlift muffler. The engine stays dry which is a good thing.
Parts are due in mid January. Stay tuned. Hopefully things will start to happen.
